A Detailed Look At Tooth Whitening Procedures

If your teeth are stained, you can have them whitened. The methods used by dental professionals to restore the enamel to its original brightness have made the process simple, convenient, and affordable.Unfortunately, a lot of people - even those who visit their dentists regularly - don't realize how easily they can have the work done.Today, we'll explore some of your tooth whitening options.I'll describe the factors that contribute to discoloration (some will likely surprise you) and explain various approaches that you can take to remove the stains.

Factors That Cause Staining

When we're young, the enamel on our teeth is typically white.

But, the enamel is merely a covering; the dentin that lay beneath the topmost layer has a yellow hue.Through the years, tiny fissures occur in the enamel that become filled with material that causes staining.Meanwhile, the constant chewing, biting, and effects of acids that accumulate in our mouths wear the enamel down, allowing the color of the underlying dentin to become more prominent.

Many of the factors that contribute to discoloration are within our control. For example, coffee, teas, acidic fruits, and tobacco can have a dramatic effect over years of constant consumption or use.Grinding, which can cause increased fissuring throughout the enamel, can also lead to stains.Other factors are outside our control; age and genetic predisposition can both play a role. Some people's teeth have a natural transparency that makes them more susceptible to discoloration.

In-Office Method

The main advantages to this approach is that the entire process can be completed quickly and safely, and the results are usually substantial.

Your dentist will normally apply a peroxide solution (typically in gel form) for approximately 15 minutes. Then, he'll clean the area to check the progress. In most cases, patients will undergo 3 or 4 15-minute sessions before the desired results are achieved. If the stains are persistent, you may need to schedule a return visit in order for your dentist to finish the job.

Take-Home Kits

Another tooth whitening option that many patients find appealing is a professional take-home kit.

These kits should not be confused with store-bought alternatives (which I'll describe below).Instead, they're provided by your dentist who will customize a set of mouth guards for you.The peroxide solution is less potent than the concentration used during an in-office method. But, it can be left on longer, often for hours.

Store-Bought Alternatives

Tooth whitening procedures that are performed either in your dentist's office or with the aid of a take-home kit are considered the most effective approaches for eliminating discoloration.

However, both can potentially cost several hundreds of dollars. For those lacking such resources, store-bought alternatives, such as whitening strips, toothpastes, and low-concentration peroxide solutions, offer a feasible option. They're less effective due to their lack of customized mouth guards and use of lower-concentration bleaching agents, but they're also less expensive.

It's worth noting that some of these alternatives may be inappropriate, given your teeth. For example, strips are considerably less effective when used on crooked teeth.

Tooth Whitening For A Brighter Smile

The important thing to remember is that unattractive stains on your teeth can be removed; there's no need to resolve yourself to coping with them.

Through the use of advanced tooth whitening and bleaching methods, a cosmetic dentist can help eliminate the discoloration, allowing you to enjoy a brighter smile. For those with severe staining and other aesthetic issues, veneers can be placed over your teeth to compensate for crookedness or odd spacing.Ask your dentist about your tooth whitening options. You may be surprised by how easy it is to enjoy a bright, attractive smile.

From Souffles To Soup Kettles - How To Serve Chicken Soup For The Soul

The catering industry is often portrayed as an elitist environment where chefs battle it out in the quest for Michelin Stars and AA rosettes to display on a restaurant wall. There are numerous television programmes that aim to rip apart a badly performing establishment and rebuild it as a kitchen that delivers the best food in the galaxy; and beyond. There was once a time when TV chefs aimed to educate, provide a service of sorts by teaching lesser mortals to knock up a fish pie and apple crumble.

These days, if it is not about hard to get hold of ingredients, the shows are generally a celebrity slagging match offering no information of any value, let alone a recipe to follow.Hell's Kitchen, F Word and the like fail to entertain; they just offend anyone with an ounce of sensibility. It was due to this inherent elitist behaviour that I decided to move away from the restaurant environment and take to the streets in search of some wholesome nourishment for body and soul.

Having established a number of restaurants, I am obviously well educated when it comes to equipping a kitchen. However, deciding to engage in mobile catering with al fresco dining, I realised that I was somewhat of a novice.I wanted to be able to provide a diverse range of foods, and yet I had to consider that I would be on the move daily, so space was of a premium and weight needed to be kept to a minimum.

After much discussion with others in the industry, and a bit of healthy scouting of competitor set-ups I decided that I would go back to basics and invest in one pot cooking and utilise the much overlooked soup kettle. The preparation involved for this type of cooking can be done in advance, thus eliminating the need for a preparatory area on site and the soup kettle doubles up as a cooking pot and as a bain marie.I figured that this not only saved precious space, but kept the weight down too.

The plan was to have a selection of foods - soup, casserole, stew, chilli and curry on offer with various types of breads that complemented each dish, and entice the passing hoards to part with a small amount of cash for a bowl of wholesome goodness. The plan worked, and was an astounding success.

Although this was a pleasing and rewarding experience, it wasn't long before my desire to turn my back on the restaurant industry morphed into an ever more altruistic desire to feed the people that needed food more than anyone else; the homeless. From high class fussy eaters bickering about the finer points of a rare steak, to hungry people that are grateful for a full belly; this was a recipe for fulfilment as far as I was concerned.

The plan was simple. Each day I started with soup kettles full to the brim with the day's offerings, and at the close of business, as shops were shutting, whatever was left in the pots was distributed free of charge to the hungry and homeless in the town.No chef likes to see good food go to waste, but the ultimate reward is in seeing the food being enjoyed.I can testify that taking to the streets and becoming a freelance soup kitchen of sorts had reaped a greater sense of satisfaction than any Michelin Star could deliver.

Wine Clubs And The Wine Industry -- Adjusting The Stereotypes Of Wine Enthusiasts In America

If you think American men only guzzle beer and women only enjoy cocktails, think again. In addition, if you think beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage in America, this article has a surprise for you.Today, Americans consume more wine than beer, and women purchase more wine than men do.More women also belong to a wine of the month club.As times have changed, these stereotypes require some adjusting too so that winemakers, wine clubs, and retailers can realize the importance of marketing to women. This article shows the new stereotype for wine drinkers in America. In addition, it discusses how women are changing the face of winemaking, both as winemakers and as consumers.

Merrill Research Associates found in a recent study that Americans have increased their wine consumption for the last eleven years straight. This also includes wine consumption from an increase in wine of the month club memberships. This study proves that wine is extremely popular in America and more and more people are enjoying it every day through retailers, restaurants, and wine clubs. The per capita consumption of wine is now 2.77 gallons per year.An elite group referred to as "core wine drinkers" by the wine industry, only makes up 13.7% of the population, but they drink 87% of the wine consumed in America, 703 million gallons worth per year. With a $26 billion retail value, the wine business is booming, and both foreign and domestic wine producers and retailers are salivating at the opportunity that this potential market presents.

A surprise to many, The San Francisco Wine Institute recently reported that women, who make up 52% of the population in America, purchase 55% of the wine consumed.Until this report, retailers, wine clubs, restaurants, the wine press, and even wineries failed to notice this huge market, but since the report, they are all paying close attention now.The report showed that women are less influenced by wine ratings and scores and are more focused on the quality of the wine, the design of the label, the shape of the bottle, recommendations from a wine of the month club, and the philosophy of the winery.Winemakers are now appealing to women more in the marketplace.

Not only are women buying more wine, but more women are making wine too.In 1990, 10% of California winemakers were women.Today, the figure has doubled with more women practicing the art of winemaking and running wineries.Women have also assumed leadership roles in the wine industry. For example, in 1990, Dianne Nury, president of Vie Del Company, became the first woman to chair The San Francisco Wine Institute since its establishment in 1934.Two other prominent California wine trade associations, Sonoma County Wineries Association and Napa Valley Vintners, both elected women as board presidents for the first time in 1998.Today, women continue in leadership roles as they also take lead roles in sales, marketing, and distribution.Women are also starting wine clubs and are becoming sommeliers in increasing numbers, a position traditionally held by men.

If you're a winemaker, wine of the month club, restaurateur, or wine retailer, keep these figures in mind and don't overlook women when it comes to making or selling wine.Times have changed when it comes to wine in America, and by adjusting the stereotype of women only enjoying cocktails, everyone wins.

Cynergy Tk. What Is It And Why Is It Good For Your Skin?

Have you ever heard of keratin? If you're interested in serious skin care chances are you've heard about keratin, along with collagen and elastin. And there is now a way to increase the stores of keratin in your skin. It's called Cynergy TK.

Cynery TK?Strange name.Lets have a look at what Cynergy TK is, and what it does, and why using natural skin care products with this new product in them is the best thing you can do for your skin.

It all starts with keratin.Keratin is a very strong fibrous protein found in our skin and in other parts of our body. The other parts of our body include our nails, hair and teeth. And keratin is also found in the horns and hooves of animals, and wool. You'll see why I mention this in a few moments.

There can be different forms of keratin. It can be hard, like in nails, or soft, like in skin.Much of the keratin in our skin is actually on the surface of the skin in dead skin cells, but these protect the skin for the new skin cells forming underneath, with new keratin.Keeping the skin moisturized keeps the outside layer supple and healthy, and so moisturizing also helps our dead skin cells protect the new cells beneath.

So keratin has a very important in rejuvenating the skin through the growth of new skin cells.

So what if there was a way of adding to your skin's store of keratin?Big brand skin care products and anti aging products do it by adding keratin to their products.Nothing wrong with that you might think. However it's not quite as simple as that.

I mentioned animals.Traditionally keratin used in most skin care products is obtained from the horns and hooves of animals. It's melted down and extracted using high heat and acid. And this process, whilst extracting the keratin, changes the form of the keratin extracted into what is basically a lifeless form of keratin. It is what is called "hydrolyzed", or made inactive. But it's put in the products, despite the fact that it does very little, because then it can be put on the label, and people buy the anti aging products when they see "keratin" listed on the label.

So what if there was a way to extract keratin in some way that doesn't "hydrolyze" it, so that it's actually useful to the skin?Enter Cynergy TK.Cynergy TK is perhaps one of the greatest breakthoughs in skin care science of the last decade.

Cynergy TK is a patented product that contains "functional" keratin, or keratin that the skin can actually use. This keratin is extracted from the wool of sheep without using acid or heat, so it's form isn't changed.

Scientific studies have shown it to be a stunning success. It has been shown to be extremely effective in rejuvenating the skin by stimulating the production of new skin cells. So your skin is actually regenerating itself.

This promotes new firmness and elasticity in the skin.Loss of firmness and elasticity of the skin is the major cause of sagging and wrinkling of the skin. And this rejuvenation also reduces fine lines and improves the overall complexion of the skin.

And more.Studies show an increase in the ability of the skin to hold moisture of around 14%, achieved in less than 3 weeks.

So if Cynergy TK is that good will the big brand skin care companies be putting it in their products?Probably not.You see Cynergy TK is very expensive, and the big brands are selling very well without it.People buy the products because of the saturation TV advertising, so they don't need to try and improve them.Customers don't notice that the big brand skincare products really do very little.

But it is possible to get natural skin care products with Cynergy TK, and other high class ingredients too.But it's not easy to find, because the big brand name skin care companies don't use it, it's too expensive.

Cooking Whole Wheat Berries

Also known as a wheat kernel or wheat grain, the whole wheat berry is slowly making a name for itself as one of the top dietary sources of valuable vitamins and minerals. It enjoys high ranking as a disease preventing food choice, protecting the body from several fatal ailments.A grain of wheat is made up of three separate parts; the endosperm, the germ, and the bran. When wheat is refined to make flour, the germ and bran layers are both removed leaving only the endosperm. The endosperm is rich in protein, carbohydrates and has a high starch content, but it does not contain the higher concentrations of important nutrients found in the germ and bran layers. The bran contains all of the fibre, while the germ contains the highest concentrations of vitamins E, and B complex.

Left unprocessed, wheat berries provide the body with much needed minerals such as calcium, zinc, iron, manganese, phosphorous and selenium, as well as vitamins A, E, B1, B2, and B3.In addition, whole wheat also contains phytonutrients. These are plant derived nutrients that have been linked to reducing the risk of cancer and heart disease.Phytonutrients also act as powerful antioxidants which neutralize free radical damage to our cells, and promote healthy aging. With all of the health benefits associated with consuming the whole grain, the refining process doesn't seem to make much sense from a nutritional stand point. However, removing the germ and bran layers of the grain gives flour a longer shelf life and in the end, the flour companies are interested in increasing their bottom line.Processing wheat in this way ultimately helps them achieve this objective.

Unconcerned with the goals of the corporate sector, the health conscious consumer has an entirely different set of objectives in mind.Health and well being are at the top of this list.Whole grains are enjoying a higher profile these days as research continues to link their consumption to the prevention of numerous diseases.Aside from providing protection against both colon and breast cancers, whole grains also reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

With all of this increased attention, whole wheat berries are slowly starting to turn up in larger chain grocery stores, finally breaking free of their long history of being available strictly through health food shops alone. If kept in an air tight container, and stored in a cool dark place, these power packed kernels will last indefinitely.Wheat kernels have been found in 5,000 year old Egyptian tombs, and when sprouted, still contained all of the same vitamins and minerals that would have present if they were placed there yesterday. That certainly tells us a thing or two about their ability to be stored for long periods of time!

Although their cooking time can take a couple of hours, wheat berries can be served and enjoyed in a number of ways.It is recommended that you soak them overnight to reduce preparation time, but this isn't mandatory. The length of time they are boiled will determine their texture. The standard method is 3 cups of water to every one cup of wheat berries. You can boil them in water, or try using a broth for a richer taste.Keep the lid on, and allow them to soak up the liquid as they cook.If you are looking for a crunchy texture similar to nuts, they should only take you an hour or so to prepare.Chewy wheat berries will require extra stove time as they grow softer the longer they are cooked.

There are a host of recipes to be found online that utilize wheat berries. They can replace rice as a side dish, be served with fresh or dried fruit as a warm and hearty breakfast cereal, or baked in the oven after boiling to produce a crisp and healthy snack.Nutritional guidelines recommend eating a minimum of 3 one-ounce servings of whole grains per day. There are a multitude of whole grain foods that available to help you meet this quota including whole wheat pasta and brown rice.Wheat berries deliciously provide yet another option for adding whole grain goodness to your diet.
